Sponsoring an international teacher
Quantum Scholars recruit secondary teaching talent from all over the world. We find the best teachers of Maths, Science, Humanities, English, Geography, Design Technology, Computer Science, Business Studies and MFL.
We recruit from Commonwealth countries like Canada and South Africa but also the USA and Ireland.
Some international teachers will require a Skilled Worker Visa if they meet the following criteria:
- All citizens from the USA, Jamaica and South Africa
- All citizens aged 35 and over from Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
- All citizens aged under 35 from Canada, Australia and New Zealand who have previously used a Youth Mobility Scheme Visa
To ensure schools understand how to sponsor a candidate requiring sponsorship, Quantum Scholars work with a UK immigration consultancy who provide invaluable support as the visa process gets underway.
As part of the service towards hiring a Quantum Scholars candidate, a visa consultation is provided to schools for free.

Visa understanding for schools
There are a number of ways in which international teachers can enter the UK. The following options will not require any involvement or sponsorship from the school.
- Youth Mobility Scheme visa (YMS) – valid for 2 years to 18-35 year olds and available from Canada, NZ, Australia and Hong Kong
- Ancestry Visa – This (up to) 5 year visa is eligible to teachers with immediate UK family ties such as a parent or grandparent who was born in the UK.
- British or Irish passport holder
Teachers entering the UK through any of these means will have the option to work in a school employed contractually through Quantum Scholars with a more flexible notice period, providing more opportunities for those wishing to teach in the UK.
European Union (EU Passport)
Candidates with a passport from any country within the European Union (apart from Ireland) are now subject to requiring a Skilled Worker Visa unless they have Settled Status in the UK.
Sponsoring an International Teacher
Quantum Scholars also recruit teachers from countries where citizens may require Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship in order to work. This includes:
- All citizens from the USA, Jamaica, and South Africa
- All citizens aged 35 and over from Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
- All citizens aged under 35 from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong who have previously used a Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme Visa
Positive changes to immigration rules since January 2021
It is important to note that the sponsorship process has become much more straightforward from January 2021 with a whole host of changes taking place that have not only simplified the process but allow schools to recruit more non-core subject teachers.
It is important to note that within these immigration changes EU citizens (without settled status) will now also require sponsorship. Therefore it makes sense for all schools to either hold visa sponsorship or have access to it through their local authority.
